Even Snapple is switching out from High Fructose Corn Syrup to real sugar or even better, real cane sugar as us here on the West Coast can get the REAL THING – Coca Cola made with cane sugar at Costco.
Corn Syrup is okay as a gasoline substitute but in our drinks? It’s got that cloying aftertaste like saccharin .. it’s just not real and it’s just not good.
And it’s not even that good for the car tank …
Companies switched to corn syrup because prices didn’t fluctuate as much and we were too dumb then to notice but now that we have a choice and revived taste buds, corn syrup is just not a good taste blend. Corn great. Popcorn great. Corn mazes cool.
Love corn but don’t want to drink it.
As bakers have know for years – corn syrup is NOT cane sugar when it comes to baking desert items – just like margarine is NOT butter no matter how you try to slice it.
Even Pepsi is getting on on the action … from their recent press release:
“PBV also will begin distributing Pepsi Throwback and Mountain Dew Throwback, which features those brands formulated with sugar.”
Of course, Pepsi has a bigger PR problem in switching from the “fridge” 12-pack to an 8-pack but only dropping the price slightly and presuming people won’t notice. Here’s the petition.

I am soooo glad everyone is going back to regular old sugar. It was very hard for a while there to find food made without HFCS, even BREAD without HFCS was hard to find.
BTW, have you seen the absurd pro HFCS commercials by the corn growers?
(MET: Yea, hilarious … sort of like aliens
).
