As general interest magazine sales are dropping (mags like Florida Ferret Monthly are doing fine
publishers are trying to figure out to customize the mags (or newspapers) the way we surf the net … here’s the latest try from Time, Inc …

Surf over to http://www.timeinc.com/mine – fill out a short questionnaire and pick 5 of the 8 mags listed and in a few weeks, they will send you a magazine customized for you – I.M. Reader (or whatever your name might be
).

Apparently by answering these questions 4,and presumably the 5 mags you choose, they will be able to ID and brand you and enter you into a DB and you will be forever branded a sushi eating-juggling INSTYLE reader
… and/or maybe the ORDER that you picked the magazines will also brand you as a an elistist celery eater-into light bondage category … hey, server space is cheap now, who knows what buckets they might put you in
And Lexus will also include ads that will appeal to your personality … um, how many Lexus drivers do NOT eat sushi?

Well, we’ll follow up in a few weeks and see how it looks.
The full story is here at YAHOO NEWS.
Don’t forget, Time, Inc still has MAGHOUND up and running also and it’s completely different again … interesting experiment, you pay a monthly fee and you select from 3, 5, 7 (or more) magazines a month (or weeklies) for a set price – and you can switch and swap from hundreds of magazines so if you’re bored or just want to try another. Doesn’t seem ultra successful but at least they are trying …
